Apryl

What I would like to point out as you read this thread:

1.) NO THIS HORSE IS NOT FOR SALE. NO. NO. NO. DON'T EVEN ASK.

2.) NO, SHE IS NOT FOR ADOPTION. NO. QUIT ASKING ME ABOUT HER ALREADY.

3.) Total feed costs for two months getting from body score 1 to a respectable 5:
HAY: 1 bale/2 days (her choice, not mine, but more than 3 flakes/feeding was just bedding to her), $150
FEED: 12.6 bags of feed (ADM patriot performance, 16/10) fed from 1#/day to 12#/day (increased slowly, half a pound per feeding, making adjustments every 3-5 days; fed in two feedings), $189
  SUPPLEMENTS: mannapro sho glo pellets, 1oz/day; 1tbsp yeast/day; 1c soybean oil/day; 2# rice bran/day (started at 1 month), $70
VETTING: had her teeth floated, $125. Wormed her twice, $30.  Spring vaccines, $25.  Total: $180.
= $589 over two months, or $294.50/month.
FARRIER: had feet trimmed twice. Luckily it's free for me to do it :)

This thread documents the progress of a 13 yo arabian mare we took in as a rescue/rehab on 12/28/2011. She was relinquished after the owner stated they were no longer interested in providing for her. The most recent owner is unknown to me; she was picked up by a third party and brought to my attention.

12/29/2011 (Day One)

"Chipin" acct was created at the request of several interested folks who wanted to help her. We are not a non profit and not a formal *rescue*, however, any funds will go straight to hay, feed, and vet bills and will be documented accordingly.

We have received $100 in memory of Eleanor Rouse, Greg's grandmother who passed away on Mother's Day, 2011.  She was a huge fan of our horses and always said we were "living her dream."  We used it to get her teeth floated 1/16/2012 by Dr. Easterwood.  We have also received a bag of Show-Glo and sea kelp from Jayne Devine Smith.  Thanks from us and Apryl :)

Photos, videos, and progress updates below as we get them....

Hooves trimmed 1/2/2012 and mane (conservatively) pulled...

Day 20 (1/15/2012)

As of this posting (3/12/2012) we have ridden Apryl five times and consider her to be rehabilitated and ready for riding work. She is broke to ride, a little side-sensitive, but has excellent ground manners from standing tied to saddling and bridling and beyond!
